On September 7, 2024, The Co-operative College of the Philippines, in partnership with learning facilitator Arete Leadership, led by Atty. Marc Castrodes, conducted a transformative in-house training session at the PECCI Multi-Purpose Cooperative Head Office. This session focused on the critical theme of succession planning, emphasizing its integral role in ensuring the long-term sustainability and resilience of cooperatives.
The training underscored the necessity for cooperatives to proactively prepare for leadership transitions by identifying and cultivating future leaders. Participants were guided through discussions and activities that highlighted the importance of aligning leadership development with the unique needs and values of cooperative organizations. Atty. Castrodes, drawing from his extensive experience and expertise, provided valuable insights into crafting effective succession strategies that ensure smooth transitions while maintaining organizational stability and continuity.
Central to the program was fostering a deeper understanding of how knowledge transfer between current and emerging leaders strengthens cooperative governance. By emphasizing mentorship and collaborative learning, the training encouraged participants to view succession planning not as a singular event but as an ongoing process that cultivates a culture of continuous leadership development. This approach empowers cooperatives to adapt to changing circumstances while staying grounded in their core principles.
The session also served as a platform to inspire participants to embrace succession planning as a tool for innovation and growth. With practical tools and frameworks, cooperative leaders were equipped to design succession plans that reflect their organization’s mission and aspirations, ensuring that their cooperatives remain dynamic and future-ready.
By hosting this training, The Co-operative College of the Philippines reaffirmed its commitment to building strong, forward-looking cooperatives. This initiative not only addressed immediate leadership challenges but also set the stage for sustainable development, reinforcing the idea that a cooperative’s greatest asset is its people and their ability to lead with purpose and vision.
